About the Job
Applications are invited from suitably
qualified persons for the position of Structural Engineer in the Public Works Department of the Ministry
of Communications and Works, in the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat.
designs for construction development and maintenance projects in all
common construction materials.
working drawings and specifications for building projects as well as
structures pertaining to infrastructural development and other types of
and administers contracts for construction.
building works on site, prepares necessary instructions and maintains
records of all aspects.
and co-ordinates with client Ministries on design and technical aspects of
terms of reference for the appointment of consultants, evaluates fee bids
and makes recommendations and also oversees services provided by
Engineering Consultants and the structural engineering of services
provided by other consultants.
fee calculations for architectural engineering, quality surveying and
consultants advises the Public Works Department and other areas of
Government on design and costing for building and engineering projects.
schedules of work for maintenance and minor work projects and carries out
engineering feasibility studies prior to and during conceptualization of
all projects and also perform facility conditions survey of existing
all planning applications in terms of structural adequacy and safety and
make recommendations to the Physical Planning Units as required.
structural assessment of planning applications for Public Works
Department; liaises with the team on new development plans and advises on
structural matters for private development, to ensure public safety.
The successful applicant should:
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Chartered
at least five (5) years experience in structural engineering and building
a high level of computer literacy, particular in Microsoft Office
applications, financial management systems and management information systems.
some experience in Auto CAD.
excellent written and oral communication skills.
able to work as part of a team and be a good motivator.
basic management and assessment skills.
Salary will be
commensurate with qualifications and experience.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
be made on a contractual basis for a period of two (2) years.
