About the Job

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the position of Customs Officer I in the Montserrat Customs and Revenue Service in the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat.





At the Trainee level - ensure the collection and protection of revenue for the Government of Montserrat and the protection of society through the control of import and export of contraband goods in accordance with the relevant laws of Montserrat.






Longroom Duties:- 


  • Processing and checking of completed Customs entries (calculating and recording duties/tariffs etc);


  • Identify errors and resolve queries on customs declaration/deposit entries or refer them to a Senior Officer for attention;


  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Officer, Longroom; and


  • Administrative duties – filing, processing and maintenance of registers/issuing landing and Discrepancy Certificates.



Preventive Duties:-


  • To examine and clear goods imported, and accounting for any duties as may be due;


  • Attend the airport and other ports of entry to control and clear passengers arriving or departing from Montserrat by air and sea and to clear and examine, passenger baggage and cargo;


  • Assist in risk profiling based on information received from regional and other enforcement contacts;


  • Assist in anti-smuggling investigations and gather evidence; and


  • Any other duty as may be assigned by a Senior Officer. 






Transit Shed Duties:- 


  • Assist at the Transit shed for examination of cargo or the completion of ships files;


  • Assist at the  Passenger Hall for the control and clearance of vessels and passengers arriving or departing Montserrat by sea;


  • Keep and maintain registers, records and reports of transactions and incidents; and


  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Officer, Transit Shed






The applicant should:



  • Possess three (3) O’ Levels including Mathematics and English;


  • Have basic knowledge of Customs Procedures and Regulations and their Applications;


  • Be capable of using Office applications such as Word, Excel and Access;


  • Possess effective Communication, Analytical and Customer Service skills; and


  • Be able to work as part of a team and contribute positively, as well as the ability to exercise initiative.




Salary is in the scale R48-34, that is EC$21,720 – EC$33,504 per annum.
