About the Job

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the post of Vice Principal, Montserrat Secondary School in the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports in Montserrat.                  The successful applicant will be appointed before the commencement of the academic year in 2020/2021, that is, prior to September 2020.



To provide support to the Principal in delivering the mission for secondary education and to ensure proper management of the Montserrat Secondary School.



The key responsibilities include:

·       Oversee the maintenance of teaching and learning standards through teacher development and evaluation.

·       To work closely with teachers to discuss and deal with concerns related to syllabi and other curriculum matters;

·       To organise and oversee all internal examination arrangements including the preparation of examination papers, timetables and invigilation schedules;

·       Supervise Head of Departments in the execution of best practices for supervision, teacher evaluation and educational standards.

·       To assist the Principal in managing the School and to deputise for the Principal in the event of absence(s);

·       To assist the Principal in determining general School policy and managing its implementation;

·       To make a leading contribution to the development of the general       School ethos and achievement of its mission;

·       To contribute to the School’s monitoring and review processes for pupils’ attainment and teaching/learning;

·       To assist the Principal in preparation of the school’s Timetable;

·       To prepares educational statistics for the school;

·       To assist with the discipline of the students on the school compound and on other official activities organised by the School or the Ministry;

·       To assist in the organisation and delivery of the continuing professional development programme and to maintain a portfolio of evidence to support performance management and evaluation of staff;

·       To have oversight of the pastoral system;

·       To manage the school nutrition programme within the school;

·       To supervise the administration of the school's extra-curricula programme.



The successful applicant should possess:


Minimum Requirement

·     Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field OR a Diploma in Education or Teacher Training with a minimum of ten years’ experience teaching at the Secondary level with at least (3) years in a supervisory position. 

·       Be computer literate to include basic spreadsheet skills;


·       Be familiar with the ministry's Performance Management Tool;


·       Demonstrate good leadership, management and supervisory skills;


·       Have excellent communication skills and be able to work as part of a team;


·       Have good decision-making skills and be a good negotiator.


Preferred Experience


·       Master’s Degree in Educational Management or School Effectiveness would be an asset;

·       Experience with implementing Educational Management Software

·       Progressive leadership growth with Secondary School setting; Form Teacher, Head of Department, Upper School lead etc.



Basic salary is in the scale R12-10, that is, EC$ 66,852 - EC$70,092 per annum.
